mediazonexa is a non-profit media education initiative built on the belief that quality journalism training should never be a privilege. We offer free, structured courses for aspiring media professionals across Australia.
Born from a desire to break down barriers in media
mediazonexa was founded in 2018 by a group of senior Australian journalists and educators who noticed a systemic problem: talented people from regional Australia, lower-income backgrounds, and underrepresented communities were being locked out of the media industry.
Existing journalism programmes were expensive, concentrated in major cities, and often failed to reflect the diversity of Australia's population. We set out to change that — by building a free, online, and nationally accessible alternative rooted in real professional standards.
Today, mediazonexa has trained over 3,200 students, partnered with 12 organisations, and issued more than 1,800 certificates. Every course is written and reviewed by active journalists to ensure relevance and rigour.
